What is an IPTV provider?
An IPTV provider (also called an IPTV service provider or subscription provider) sells access to television delivered over the internet. It is responsible for three things:
- The content — live channels grouped by country and category, a TV guide, and a film and series library.
- The delivery — servers that stream each channel to many viewers at once in several qualities.
- The account — your login, plan length, number of screens, and support when something doesn't work.
The player app on your TV isn't the provider — apps like IPTV Smarters or TiviMate are made by separate developers and work with many providers.
How IPTV providers work
- The provider receives each channel feed and encodes it into streams at several qualities (SD, HD, FHD, 4K where available).
- Streams are served from servers sized for many viewers watching at the same time.
- Your account gets a login — an Xtream Codes server URL, username and password, or an M3U link.
- Your player app uses that login to load the channel list, the programme guide and the on-demand catalogue.
