HDR (High Dynamic Range) gives brighter highlights, deeper shadows and richer colour than standard TV. On IPTV, you get HDR only when the stream itself is HDR, your device and app pass it through, and your TV supports that HDR format. Most live channels are still standard dynamic range (SDR); HDR mostly appears on selected 4K channels, events and films.

HLG was developed by the BBC and NHK for broadcasting, which is why it's the most common HDR format for live 4K channels.
What you need for HDR on IPTV
- An HDR source — the channel, event or film must be produced in HDR.
- A device that supports HDR — Fire TV Stick 4K models, Google TV devices, Apple TV 4K and recent Smart TVs.
- An app that passes HDR through — support varies by player.
- An HDR TV with the right HDMI settings — see 4K HDMI setup.
- Enough bandwidth — HDR content is usually 4K, so about 25 Mbps.
Common HDR problems

Device settings to check
- Fire TV: Display settings — set dynamic range to adapt to content where available.
- Apple TV: Settings → Video and Audio → Match Content → Match Dynamic Range.
- Google TV: Display settings — allow the device to match the content's dynamic range.

Is HDR worth it on IPTV?
For films and selected 4K events, yes. For everyday live channels, most content is SDR, so HDR won't change much. Good picture settings matter for both — see TV picture settings for streaming.
