An IPTV black screen has two very different causes. If one channel is black, its source is probably down — switch channel and tell your provider. If every channel is black, the fix is on your side: switch the player or stream format, check the device can decode the video, and rule out HDMI/HDCP problems.
First: one channel or all channels?
| What you see | Likely cause | First fix |
|---|---|---|
| One channel black, others fine | Source down temporarily | Try later; tell support which channel |
| Every channel black | Player, format or device | Switch player / format |
| Sound but no picture | Video codec not decoded | Switch player; try HD version |
| Black only on 4K channels | Device or HDMI can't handle 4K | Try FHD version; check HDMI port |
| Black after a few seconds | Connection drops | See the buffering checklist |
Fix 1: Switch the player
Most apps offer more than one built-in player, or can hand playback to an external player such as VLC. In IPTV Smarters this is under Settings → Player selection — see IPTV Smarters settings.
Fix 2: Switch the stream format
Change between TS and HLS (m3u8) in the app's settings or in your M3U link — see TS vs HLS.
Fix 3: Try another quality
Many channels come in SD, HD, FHD and 4K versions. If 4K is black but HD plays, your device or HDMI setup may not support that 4K stream or codec.
Fix 4: Check HDMI and HDCP
- Reseat the HDMI cable at both ends.
- Plug the stick straight into the TV (not through a soundbar or switch) to test.
- For 4K, use an HDMI port labelled 4K / HDCP 2.2 or higher.
- Restart the TV and the device.
Fix 5: Restart and clear cache
Restart the device, then clear the app's cache. If the app itself crashes, see IPTV app keeps crashing.
When to contact support
If every app and player shows black on every channel with a wired connection, or one channel stays black for hours, message support with the channel names and your device — see getting fast IPTV support. Audio problems are covered in IPTV no sound.
